Week 5

Palates, Mirrors, and God

“Do not merely listen to the word, and so deceive yourselves. Do what it says.” James 1:22

Most of us have sat in front of the television with a pint of Ben & Jerry’s® ice cream while watching a “little” workout video (don’t you just love them). Later, as we pass the mirror, we wonder why we don’t look like those trim women in the video. What happened? I know I heard everything they said. It was the leg kicks I struggled with! ☺

When you walk past the mirror of your own walk with God, are you shocked? Do you want to hide? In your faith walk it is important to read, listen to, and know God’s Word, but it is meaningless if you don’t obey or apply it. The effectiveness of our Bible study and attentiveness to the Sunday sermon are measured by our behavior and attitudes throughout the entire week.

Live the Word every day. It will change your life! Don’t give in to the temptation just to “hear” wisdom without applying it to your life. Be a living testimony of His grace and truth. God’s dream for you is to make His Word come alive in your life daily!

Prayer:
Father, help me to be a doer of the Word and not just a hearer. May I be so infected by Your words of truth that my actions are a direct reflection of what is deeply engraved in my heart. Amen.
