Now concerning spiritual gifts, brethren, I do not want you to be unaware. I Corinthians 12:1
Its interesting to me that the Lord wants us to clearly know that He has given every believer spiritual gifts. Its almost as if He doesn’t want to leave us any room to say, I really would serve You if I could, but I just don’t have anything to offer. God understands our limitations, and so by the power of the Holy Spirit within us, He has given each one of us unique gifts that enable us to build up the Church and glorify Him. Our Lord is gracious! He never asks us to do anything we are unable to do. But He does give us tasks bigger than ourselves and shows His glory by doing them through us. This decision, the decision to allow Him to work through us, is the impetus from which we move from the ordinary to the extraordinary. So what are these gifts were supposed to be aware of, these gifts that go beyond our ordinary skills and abilities? I Corinthians 12 lists quite a few of them, including administration, giving, helping, teaching, evangelism, and mercy. God gives us each a different combination of these spiritual gifts, and as we grow in Him the gifts we have will develop and mature. In fact, we may even see that the gifts change over time as God uses us in different ministries. As we come to recognize the gifts God has given us, we need to be extremely careful to recognize our temptation to pride. The gifted are always in danger of it. So keep in mind that any gifts you have were given to you by the grace of God. We didnt earn them, and we certainly don’t deserve them, so none of us has any reason to boast. God has gifted you with everything you need to serve Him. Do it wholeheartedly, giving Him glory for all He is doing in and through you.- Bible Readings for the Week Ahead:
