Teach me Your way, O Lord; I will walk in Your truth; give me an undivided heart that I may fear your name. Psalm 86:11
Over the past several years, it has become more apparent that the current of our culture has pushed the concept of commitment to the backburner of life. Commitment, they tell us, inhibits expression. The media presents an image of a non-committal life being filled with laughter, acceptance, and fun. It promises a false sense of freedom. We want to be able to do whatever we want, whenever we want. In rebellion against commitment, we tend to fill our lives with fleeting pleasures that ultimately leave us feeling empty and alone. The result is devastating. We forget our purpose for existence and eventually see our heart divided, torn, and tampered. The distractions threatening to blind us from our purpose and direction in life are everywhere! What hope is there for those who have unknowingly divided their hearts loyalty between this worlds limited promise for fulfillment and the infinite, divine purpose for which it was made? I believe it begins with the prayer of the Psalmist, Teach me your way, O Lord; I will walk in your truth; give me an undivided heart that I may fear your name. The way to battle distraction and fleeting pleasures is to fill our minds with the truth of Gods Word and to apply it to our everyday life. In response, our hearts will begin to reunite with the purpose for which it was created - to bring glory to God. Jesus taught us that we cannot serve two masters. Our hearts cannot share the pleasures of this world with the pleasures of God. We must choose this day who we will serve. Has your heart been divided? Have you lost sight of the purpose for which you were created? If so, may your heart connect to the plea of the Psalmist and run to the way of the Lord.- Bible Readings for the Week Ahead:
