... In the world you will have tribulation; but be of good cheer, I have overcome the world. John 16:33
Theres constant construction in my hometown. New homes. New businesses. New renovations. A big bright orange sign adorns the side of the road warning passersby of the construction taking place-Slow! Men at work. But as days and days go by with little noticeable progress-no beams, no walls, no supports-it leads me to wonder, What could all of these guys be doing? Sometimes I think the sign should simply read Slow men! But then I realized... these men are doing more than meets the eye-they’re laying the foundation. The contractor knows its depth will determine the structures strength and ability to withstand future stresses. Will the building hold up when big storms blow through the neighborhood? Jesus preached on the very same concept and how it applies not to buildings, but to our lives. The foolish person lays the foundation of his house on shifting sands. The wise-on solid rock. When the storms hit, the sand castle falls mightily. And the house carefully set on stone survives. Lifes storms batter the bad and the good. Rain falls on the unrighteous and the righteous. Trouble happens. Jesus explains this Himself in John 16:33. There are times when only God can help us. Every comfort and cure offered by the world becomes useless. David recognized this in Psalm 60. But keep reading - in the next chapter he prays, When my heart is overwhelmed, lead me to the rock that is higher than I am. Our Rock of Salvation is Jesus. Sister, keep building your life on Him. The sea may thrash and wash away the sands of the shore, but your storm shelter will hold sure.- Bible Readings for the Week Ahead:
