The land we passed through and explored is exceedingly good... Numbers 14:7b
If what you see is what you get, then I wonder who got the idea for those trick mirrors at the circus! They’re curved to make you appear grotesquely long or short, thick or thin. Hilarious! Unless, of course, you believe what you see. I’ve seen kids terrified! From their perspective, the mirror held a hideous monster, not a goofy, distorted image. Its all a matter of perspective. Everything we do or don’t, will or wont, hinges on it. Consider the scouting report brought back to Moses from the Promised Land in Numbers chapter 14. Ten spies said, No way. To them the place was full of fierce giants and fortresses. Too tough to tame! They focused on obstacles. Joshua and Caleb had a different perspective, an exceedingly good land, flowing with milk and honey. They saw opportunity. In a way, both reports were true. The difference was perspective-faith versus fear, opportunity over obstacle. Only God clearly sees the big picture. In fact, in 1 Corinthians 13, Paul says were looking through smoked glass, a dim mirror. Sister, what’s the view where you are? A glimpse of faiths rainbow in a troubled sky? Or dark, churning clouds hovering on the horizon? Sometimes, what we see... all depends on what were looking for.- Bible Readings for the Week Ahead:
