Man shall not live by bread alone, but by every word that proceeds from the mouth of God. Matthew 4:4

Thanksgiving. Its here again. And for some unknown reason, it arrived faster this year than in years past. Where does the time go? I can remember as a little girl sitting around the table at Thanksgiving going through the list of people and things for which I was most thankful. One year my sister began to thank in succession each person responsible for the food on the table-from our mother cooking the food, to the clerks at the grocery store who rang it up, all the way back to the workers who drove it to the warehouse and those who cultivated it. It began a discussion on the origins of everything else we were thankful for that year. Amazingly enough, as the discussion progressed, we realized everything pointed back to our Creator. As I read Deuteronomy 8:3, I realized God allowed the Israelites to hunger to cultivate a humble spirit within them, later providing them with manna from Heaven. Yet they did not recognize the manna. I pray that as we approach Thanksgiving Day, we stop long enough to recognize the manna in our own lives. Busyness has a way of stealing a grateful heart. But its important to stop and see that everything, yes everything, you have was spoken into existence by God. It is His Word that gives us life. It is His Word that sustains it too. Time flies. Life is short. Take the time to thank Him this week for the joy of your children, the loving presence of your husband, the roof over your head, the food on the table, the laughter of friendship, and even the tears you cry.
