And He is before all things, and in him all things hold together. Colossians 1:17
As Beth opened her eyes to begin a new day, she groggily rolled out of bed and made her way to the window. As she looked through the window, she quickly realized it was lighter out than usual-especially for 6 a.m. Delayed reaction! It is 7 a.m.! Realizing she overslept by an hour, she quickly scurries to the bathroom and begins her preparation as quickly as possible. As she completes the worlds fastest beautification venture of her life, she runs out the door to begin her 30-minute commute. Fortunately, having put the coffee maker on timer the night before, she was prepared with a cup of caffeine for the half-hour drive. However, as she arrived at work, the train tracks at the entrance are blocked by a large locomotive at a complete standstill. As she jerks the wheel to the left to turn around, her coffee splashes all over her pants. Beth takes a deep breath and then heads for a back way into work, making her not 10 minutes late, but now 20. As she steps into the building, she is informed of an unannounced meeting with the visiting president of the company. A meeting that started 20 minutes ago. Trying to be invisible, she sneaks in the heightened squeaky door, after which she trips over the presidents luggage lying on the floor. After the meeting, she makes her way to her desk where she finds a voicemail message: Beth, her supervisor relays on the answering machine, the deadline for your portfolio has been moved up a week and is now due in my office by 11 a.m. tomorrow! By lunchtime, Beth has officially become unglued.... I know there isn’t one of you who cannot relate to Beths morning. You wake up late, and then everything consecutively following that event is ironically a complete disaster. At the end (or sometimes, like Beth, at the middle!) of those days you feel emotionally, mentally, and physically exhausted, not to mention keenly aware of the new gray hair you found! On days like these, when we are torn asunder by our earthly condition, let us not forget our heavenly position. God knows the details of your day. He completely understands your condition. But He also came that you would be reconciled to Him and raised to a new position in Him. He came to hold us together. Even if the conditions around you bring you to tears, remember Jesus is your super glue and will keep you from completely falling apart. You are reconciled to Him - held together by Him!- Bible Readings for the Week Ahead:
