"... Acknowledge the God of your father, and serve him with wholehearted devotion and with a willing mind, for the LORD searches every heart and understands every motive behind the thoughts. If you seek him, he will be found by you..." 1 Chronicles 28:9
I know I’m getting older now but most of you can probably hum with me a few lines from the hit song in Grease called Hopelessly Devoted: “Hold on to the end, that’s what I intend to do…I’m hopelessly devoted to you.”
Ah, love songs. One love-stricken person pouring out his or her heart to another. It’s what most of us desire—to be madly in love with someone who is loyal, faithful, and devoted. Some however are so smitten by the concept or idea of love that we’ll give ourselves to anything...even compromise who we are and what we stand for. We hold tight to the idea of love because it trumps the reality of no relationship at all. I find it sad to watch women give themselves to relationships that have no hope…just because they are desperate for love.
The God of the universe “knows the secrets of [your] heart (Psalm 44:21).” He knows the motives behind your thoughts. And He tells you that if you seek Him, you will find Him. He is good to those whose hope is in Him (Lamentations 3:25).” No man will ever fulfill the desperate longings of your heart. Only One can do that—His name is Jesus.
God’s dream is for you to be hopefully devoted to Jesus. Are you?
