"When He has tested me, I shall come forth as gold." Job 23:10b
Job is one of the most fascinating and well-known men in the Bible. He lost his children, his vast wealth, eventually his health, and was left with only an embittered wife and unwise friends. Can you imagine?
Yet, Job knew he was not alone. He understood that God knew who he was, where he was, and the pain he was experiencing. He was given no reason for the calamity that so swiftly struck his life. Yet, he did not question or turn away. He simply and resolutely chose to keep his faith in God.
Job knew God and trusted Him. Can you say the same today? It seems that nearly every day I hear of another catastrophe that has fallen on someone’s life—war, hurricanes, fires, car accidents, miscarriages…. When you are confronted with such a tragedy, can you face it as Job did? Cry out in the very midst of your sorrow to God… know Him and trust Him.
I pray today that you will grow to know and trust your God more deeply and more resolutely than ever before. Remember the words of Job in those dark times, “He knows the way that I take; when He has tested me, I shall come forth as gold” (Job 23:10).
