"Surrender to God!" James 4:7 CEV

Why do we feel safer driving our cars than flying when we know that we’re more likely to wreck our car than die on a plane? Because we’re in the pilot’s seat—in total control (or so we think).

It’s like this every day—in most situations. We desire control in circumstances because we feel safe when we are, but it’s deceptive. Are you really in control driving your car? What about the other people on the road? What about all the moving parts in the engine? Will the brakes work?

The truth is that we have never been in control. Believing we are is an illusion we cling to every day. It’s easy to believe God and surrender all to Him when we feel like we’re in control… life is good… things are going easy. However, as soon as you feel like you’ve lost control and all circumstances become too much to bear… surrendering and trusting Him gets more difficult. Too often in life God needs to bring us to a place where we literally have nowhere else to turn… but to Him.

Letting go means feeling unsafe, unprotected, and vulnerable. If you’re not willing to go there when things are good, God may have to take you there.

He calls us to let go… to open our fists and relax. You’ll find that when you give your deepest desires and biggest concerns to God, He surprises you by making a way where none were apparent. Open your fists. Give up control. Surrender all.

Prayer
I want to surrender all to You, O God, but I am afraid of letting go. Calm my fears, increase my faith so I can willingly hand over my life, my all, to You. Amen.
