“Such knowledge is too wonderful for me, too lofty for me to attain.”

– Psalm 139:6 (NIV)

Daily Meditation: Psalm 131, Psalm 139:1-6

When talking with our friends about deep things, we often hear—and say—things like, “I just don’t get it” and “Why did God do that?” Below the surface of such a conversation sits a boiling pot that just won’t simmer down, and inside that pot are all the unanswered questions.

For many women, that pot boils over and drama erupts… feelings are hurt, unkind words are said, and belief in God weakens. But over time the eruption cools, and then you might (or might not) find out what the real problem was.

I learned years ago that I do not need to understand all that happens to me. The psalmist said it perfectly when he wrote, “Such knowledge is too wonderful for me, too lofty for me to attain.” When it comes to what God is doing in my life and in the lives of those around me, I do not need to “get it.”

Oh, sure, I want to understand, but I do not need to understand. God doesn’t have to ask my permission to do anything. I will do my best to play my part in his divine plans, but truly “getting” all that he is doing is not a requirement. And I’m learning to be okay with that wonderful reality.

“Where you are today is no accident. God is using the situation you are in right now

to shape you and prepare you for the place He wants to bring you into tomorrow.

Trust Him with His plan even if you don’t understand it.”

Trusting, not asking why, is my job. But that doesn’t mean we don’t need to pray for help! Pray without ceasing and trust him to guide you.
