“You will keep him in perfect peace whose mind is stayed on You, because he trusts in You.”
– Isaiah 26:3 (NIV)
Daily Meditation: Isaiah 26, John 14:25-31
How long has it been since you’ve truly been at peace? I don’t know about you, but sometimes it feels like everywhere I turn, something or someone is clamoring for my attention, and frankly, that can be incredibly overwhelming. Sometimes I feel like I’m stretched so thin that if I get pulled in any more directions, I’ll tear right in half! Have you ever felt that way—that there’s too much to do, too many people to please, too many stresses and obligations? With so much out there vying for our attention, it can be easy to let our minds dwell on our ever-growing to-do lists. In the midst of all of that chaos, how on earth is it possible to have even a moment of peace?
It all comes down to what we allow our minds to focus on. It’s easy to let ourselves get distracted by the chaos of life. So when there’s so much to do, how do we keep ourselves from getting overwhelmed? How do we find that “perfect peace” Isaiah talks about? By fixing our minds on God. It’s that simple. Just keep your eyes focused on God, your mind fixed on him, and your heart surrendered to the One who holds the universe in his hand.
Our Father is never overwhelmed by chaos and stress. He is constantly in control of everything, including your life. So fix your mind on him. Allow him to fill you with his perfect peace. The struggles and stresses of life will still exist, but if we focus our eyes on him, everything else will fade into the background. Isaiah goes on to say in 26:4 (NKJV) that in the Lord is “everlasting strength.” What an amazing concept! Just trust him, focus on him, and he’ll give you peace.
“He predestined us to adoption as sons through Jesus Christ to Himself,
according to the kind intention of His will,”
– Ephesians 1:5 (NASB)
Do you want to experience peace in the middle of life’s craziness? Then turn your eyes to Jesus. Be intentional about focusing your mind on God. Pray constantly as you go through your day. Trust in God; he will be your strength. And when your mind is stayed on your heavenly Father, you will sense that perfect peace of God that passes all understanding. What a beautiful gift!
