“Though he slay me, yet will I hope in him; I will surely defend my ways to his face.”

– Job 13:15 (NIV)

Daily Meditation: Job 13, Romans 1:5-11

A boxer once said, “All I need to do to win is get up one more time than my opponent.” To me, that is the epitome of hope. It says, “Sure, I will get knocked down. I expect that, but know this: I plan to get up one more time than you do!”

Hope is bold. It is courageous. It is belligerent in the face of opposition. It is relentless. And it is strong because it is rooted in two certainties: the past certainty that Jesus died on the cross to bring us into the family of God, and the future certainty that someday in the new heaven and new earth, all things will be made right. Because those truths are our constant source of confidence and hope, we have what it takes to handle the problems of today.

We can be sure of the hope we have in the Lord, no matter what difficult circumstances come our way. Job said it best when he declared, “Though he slay me, yet will I hope in him.” That is someone who knows his God!

Hold fast to your hope. Who cares if people think you’re naïve or crazy for believing that God has called you for something more than your current situation? It’s your choice to maintain your hope.

With you, I am also holding onto hope. I choose to believe that a new day will dawn, that a new opportunity will arise, and that I will see my God be mighty in my situation. As long as I have breath, I am going to believe in him. That is my reason and source of hope.

“My hope is built on nothing less

Than Jesus’ blood and righteousness;

I dare not trust the sweetest frame,

But wholly lean on Jesus’ name.

 On Christ, the solid Rock, I stand;

All other ground is sinking sand.”

– Edward Mote

Be fearless: No darkness can withstand even the smallest light, so keep your hope candle burning. God is with you this very moment. Your candle is going to start a fire!
