Sow a thought, reap an action. Sow an action, reap a habit. Sow a habit, reap character. Sow character, reap a destiny.

 

Our thoughts influence us at the deepest level. Paul was aware of this when he wrote, “Finally, brothers and sisters, whatever is true, whatever is noble, whatever is right, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is admirable—if anything is excellent or praiseworthy— think about such things” (Philippians 4:8, NIV).

 

It is easy for us to lose track of our thought life and develop angry or hateful thoughts. But allowing ourselves to slip into the habit of letting our thoughts run wild can take a serious toll on our lives. Even though thoughts cannot be seen, they can have definite consequences if we let them influence our actions. How do we break such negative cycles? By setting our “minds on things above, not on earthly things” (Colossians 3:2, NIV).

 

That may be hard to do, but little by little, one small thought at a time, we can learn to discipline our minds and control our thoughts. How? By walking with God and sowing the right seeds—the right thoughts—which will inevitably bring the right harvest. No more mind games. Let’s fix our gaze on him.

Be fearless: Thoughts are so small, yet they direct our lives in major ways. No one else on the planet has the power to control your thoughts. They are your own, for better or for worse.
