“Every good and perfect gift is from above, coming down from the Father of the heavenly lights,

who does not change like shifting shadows.”

– James 1:17 (NIV)

Daily Meditation: Jeremiah 17:7-8, Psalm 34

Have you seen God today? Maybe you think you haven’t, but look around you. James writes that “every good and perfect gift” comes from the Father! What has blessed you today? Was it a hug, a random phone call from a friend, a text, or the song you really needed to hear on the radio? Have you thought about what God drops on us every day?

God loves to bless you in little ways throughout the day. We may not even realize it because we’re not looking, but when we truly look around us and pay attention to all the little blessings we experience in life, we can start to clearly see God’s hand at work in our everyday lives. There is an old hymn that proclaims, “Count your blessings, name them one by one. Count your blessings, see what God has done! Count your blessings, name them one by one, and it will surprise you what the Lord has done!”

As I look around me, his gifts are evident! They all feel like our Father smiling down. Even that free cup of weak coffee, that handwritten note from a child, or that burly guy on the plane who helps jam your bag in the overhead compartment; these little blessings can turn your day from dull and depressing to full of joy!

The good news is that God “does not change,” so keep your eyes wide open to see his not-so-hidden blessings.

“There are two ways to live: you can live as if nothing is a miracle;

you can live as if everything is a miracle.”

– Albert Einstein

Be fearless: I don’t think we’re even aware of how many good and perfect gifts God sends our way. I wish we could see them clearly, for then we would marvel. The more you see, the more you will know. Let’s count our blessings today!
