“That person is like a tree planted by streams of water, which yields its fruit in season and whose leaf does not wither—whatever they do prospers.” – Psalm 1:3 (NIV)

Daily Meditation: Psalm 1, Jeremiah 17:5-8

I don’t have a natural green thumb at all. And I’ve tried! What about you? Have you ever planted several tiny tomato plants together in one small pot, watered them well, taken care of them, and brooded over them, only to see them turn into midget plants that bear no tomatoes at all? But pop one of those tiny tomato plants out of that crowded pot and stick it in the ground with plenty of room to grow, and boom! You’ll soon be harvesting a lot of tomatoes! Room to grow is a requirement for healthy living. When it comes to our walk with God, I believe we all desire to be a “tree planted by streams of water,” because we know that means we’ll have “fruit in season” and a leaf that “does not wither.”

If God is going to plant me, then I say, “Plant me deep!” I don’t want to disrupt the process or limit the outcome. Nobody has a green thumb like God’s. He can bring dead plants to life. It may take time, and it may take work, but I’ll accept that. I want life and fruit. Plant me deep!

“So neither the one who plants nor the one who waters is anything, but only God, who makes things grow.” – 1 Corinthians 3:7 (NIV)

Plants seldom grow fast, and trees certainly do not. Stay anchored and rooted in Christ. He is your stream of living water. And if it takes time, so be it. Let your Father lovingly set your roots deep in the ground. His touch will always bring life.
