“And we know that in all things God works for the good of those who love him,

who have been called according to his purpose.”

– Romans 8:28 (NIV)

Daily Meditation: Psalm 29, Romans 8

It is always easier said than done. That’s how I feel about any words of comfort offered to me when I’m in the thick of things, with pressures, obstacles, and deadlines banging on my door. In that moment, catching my breath and relaxing sounds easier said than done, but the truth is that I still need to do it!

I know that “in all things God works for the good of those who love him, who have been called according to his purpose,” but that does not mean it’s easy to relax. For most of us, it’s rather difficult to relax in stressful situations. In the story of Jesus and the disciples crossing the lake and the storm raging, Jesus was asleep in the bottom of the boat! That’s my goal too—to be able to fall asleep in the midst of whatever storm is raging around me; but the only way to sleep in a storm is to know that the outcome is going to be good.

In your own stressful situation, you already know the outcome, for God promised to make things work for your good. So go ahead, taste the spray, squeeze the water out of your hair, or get another umbrella if you need to… and then boldly and confidently lay back on your pillow!

“In a storm of struggles, I have tried to control the elements,

clasp the fist tight so as to protect self and happiness.

But stress can be an addiction, and worry can be our lunge for control,

and we forget the answer to this moment is always yes because of Christ.”

– Ann Voskamp

In the moment it may be tough to breathe and relax, but you can do it. Rest in peace, confident that God is in control of all things, your storm included!
