“For I am the LORD your God who takes hold of your right hand and says to you, Do not fear; I will help you.” – Isaiah 41:13 (NIV)

Daily Meditation: Psalm 144:7-8, Ephesians 4

When my children, Megan and Zach, were little and we were either crossing the street or just working our way back to our car in the parking lot, I would grab their hands. It was natural. I wanted to keep them safe. I wanted to guide them. I wanted to hold them close so I could direct them quickly if need be. Reading that God “takes hold of your right hand” is the exact same thing. I don’t have to walk alone! I can close my eyes and see my heavenly Father grabbing my hand before we even step off the first curb. He is right there with me to guide me through life’s unknown situations. And as much as I love to do that with my own children, how much more does God love to do that with His children—with you and me! There is something so profoundly reassuring for us in the simple act of holding hands! He actually wants to take my hand. And then He so lovingly adds, “Do not fear; I will help you.” Go on; hold His hand tightly. Don’t try to walk this earth alone. On our own we can so easily get lost or trampled down by the chaos coming our way. But when we cling to God’s hand and let Him guide us through the crazy obstacles of life, we know that He is with us, no matter what!

“Neither go back in fear and misgiving to the past, nor in anxiety and forecasting to the future; but lie quiet under His hand, having no will but His.” – H. E. Manning

Holding hands—whether with a date, spouse, child, or grandchild— has to rank right up there with some of the most precious experiences we enjoy in this life! Thankfully, we can repeat the action of holding hands a million times over. Do it today, and remember that your Father has His hand in yours.
