“No one is like you, Lord; you are great, and your name is mighty in power.”

– Jeremiah 10:6 (NIV)

Daily Meditation: Jeremiah 10:1-16, Romans 1:18-32

Remember that Sunday School song we used to sing, “He’s got the whole world in His hands”? I find there’s a lot of truth conveyed in some of the simple songs we teach our children. Our God really is incredible, holding the entire universe in the palm of His hand! No matter what profession we’re in, how influential we are, or even how much we’ve accomplished for His kingdom, we cannot even begin to compare ourselves with God.

“No one is like you, Lord” pretty much says it all. Not a single person on the planet can even come close! And although we sometimes try to conduct our lives as though we are in charge, there is really only one God.

Those with true power must back it up, and God certainly has. He has proven His limitless power through the creation of the universe. His paint brushes, covered in star dust, are still wet on His easel. The blueprints and designs for every living thing are rolled up and stacked on His shelf. The universe is His canvas, and everything within it is divinely designed by His glorious power.

As if creation isn’t evidence enough, He also proved His power through the miraculous life of Jesus, which included countless miracles as well as a humanly impossible resurrection. We cannot even begin to comprehend the scope of God’s might and majesty! Over and over again He does what our finite human brains consider to be “impossible,” but nothing, no matter how big or how small, is impossible for God!

If we are attentive enough, we also see His power demonstrated in our own lives each and every day. God isn’t required to demonstrate who He is or the power He possesses; He doesn’t owe us anything. But I am so thankful that He chose to make Himself known to us in all of His glorious splendor.

“It is about the greatness of God, not the significance

of man. God made man small and the universe

big to say something about Himself.”

– John Piper

I like this definition of humility: humility is being known for who you are, nothing more and nothing less. Let us kneel today in humility and awe before the throne of our all-powerful God. There is truly no one like Him!
