“for zeal for your house consumes me, and the insults of those who insult you fall on me.”

– Psalm 69:9 (NIV)

Daily Meditation: Psalm 69, Romans 12:9-21

I love seeing women who are really in love with Jesus, the ones who are very obviously passionate about him and his purposes. They radiate Christ, and spending time in their presence is challenging in a wonderful and refreshing way.

Early on in my journey, such exuberant passion made me wonder, “Where does such wholehearted devotion come from? And is it possible for me to feel that way too?” Have you ever asked yourself the same thing? Where or how do we develop a zeal for the things of God? How do we cultivate a consuming passion for the Lord?

Passion that is based only on emotion will eventually fizzle out. I have learned that true, enduring passion is fueled by God’s word, which is always red hot and burning. Yes, emotions are great, and so are those emotional highs that can accompany times of great enthusiasm and excitement for the Lord and his purposes. However, enduring desire for God can only be supported by what we know to be true. True passion is fueled by spending time with him and in his word.

“A passion for God isn’t necessarily the same as abiding in God;

it must be coupled with obedience to be true love for God.”

– Ed Cole

Be fearless: We are passionate beings. God has made us that way! Today, make the decision to be passionate about him. Then fuel your passion by consuming his word and spending time with him.
