“He is the Rock, his works are perfect, and all his ways are just.

A faithful God who does no wrong, upright and just is he.”

– Deuteronomy 32:4 (NIV)

Daily Meditation: Isaiah 26:1-19, Psalm 20

Trust is not something that comes easily to most of us, especially when we have been hurt. Maybe it is the result of what we have learned or unlearned, but full-on trust is hard to give. We want to feel safe, and we believe that if we don’t trust we won’t get hurt, but if we refuse to trust, we run the risk of getting hurt in a different way. How can we learn to build trust? We can start by placing our trust in the One who will never let us down.

God is worthy of our trust. After all, he is “faithful” and he “does no wrong, upright and just is he.” There is no one safer in whom to place our trust. Why is it then, that we struggle so much with turning our lives over to him? We have ample evidence of God’s trustworthiness, and yet trusting him is admittedly one of—if not the most—challenging things we will ever face in life. Why? Because want to be in control, and placing our trust in someone else means relinquishing at least some measure of control.

The more closely I looked, the more I noticed God’s many obvious acts of love for me. They were everywhere, and yet it still seemed hard to trust… but then it clicked! I trust God to the extent that my heart knows he loves me! The more I revel in his love for me, the more I realize how much I trust him. It isn’t even something I try to do; I can’t help it! God is love. It’s no coincidence that everything comes back to that.

“We must cease striving and trust God to provide what He thinks is best and in whatever time

He chooses to make it available. But this kind of trusting doesn’t come naturally.

It’s a spiritual crisis of the will in which we must choose to exercise faith.”

– Charles R. Swindoll

Be fearless: We feel bad when we don’t trust God as we know we should, but trust isn’t something we can buy, much less self-generate. It is a by-product of knowing how much we are loved. And his love is limitless, so let yourself trust again by placing your faith in him.
